There have finally been an end to the Alexis Sanchez debacle going on at Arsenal as the Chilean have agreed a deal to join Manchester United in a deal that sees United Henrikh Mkhitaryan join Arsenal in a direct swap deal.
Both clubs agreed the deals and the players have signed for their respective new club. United offered Sanchez a four and half year deal while Arsenal offered Mkhitaryan a three and half year deal, according to Sky Sports.
The necessary medicals have been done by both players and work permit granted to both. Sanchez will be wearing the famous number 7 jersey at United while Mkhitaryan will be wearing the same number jersey at Arsenal vacated by Sanchez.
Manchester City were initially the club closer to signing Sanchez before United came into the frame. City pull out of the race to sign the Chilean after cost of signing and wage demands will be beyond what the club can offer. This gave United the edge despite Chelsea making inquiries about the Arsenal’s attacker.
The 29-year-old decision to join United made the deal easier for Arsenal as the Gunners could be getting his replacement directly from Old Trafford in a 28-year-old Henrikh Mkhitaryan as Sanchez already has 6 months left on his contract at Arsenal and Mkhitaryan was also struggling for playing time at Old Trafford. It was a win-win situation for both clubs.
Sanchez joined Arsenal from Barcelona in 2014 and has gone on to score 80 goals in 165 games, winning two FA cups and scoring in both finals. Mkhitaryan joined United from Dortmund in the summer of 2016 but have struggled to hit the ground running at Old Trafford. His best moment at the club will be scoring in the Europa league final last year.
