It in the game of football, anything can happen. This was the case with the Wigan Manchester City game. If anyone had predicted a team that will end City’s hope of winning a quadruple, hardly will anyone put Wigan in the fray.
The Latics gave City the greatest shock of their season with the 1-0 win in the FA cup 5th round at the DW stadium. Will Grigg was the difference on the night and was enough to end Guadiola’s hope of any quadruple this season.
City had earlier seen Fabian Delph sent off for a rash tackle in the late part of first half. The Citizens played the second half a man down which might have also been a factor in the loss. They did all they could do but it was not a night that was meant to be theirs.
This was also a game that saw touch line altercations that transcends into a tunnel bust up between both managers. City are not happy about the defeat and their attitude showed it.
This defeat also marks the point of a team doing the unbeaten or winning the quadruple. The United side of 1999 that won the treble and Arsenal invincible side of 03-04 were teams that will forever stood out for many in years to come especially doing it with less budget compared to the current City side.
City are favorite to win the league in May but the league will not be enough for all the amount spent so far by Pep Guadiola’s side. They will be playing Arsenal in the Carabao cup final on Sunday and will have the opportunity to win a domestic double.
The champions league can’t really be guaranteed at this point in time but a good outing to at least the semifinal could be nice achievement.
