One of the most scintillating fixture in the round of 16 in the champions is the Chelsea-Barcelona game and it did not fail to live to expectation.
As expected, Barcelona were all over Chelsea and were dominant in most part of the game but Chelsea were the side with better goal scoring chances. Willian hit the wood work twice in the game and it was as if it was destined to be a night not for Chelsea.
The Blues eventually got their opportunity to take the lead in the second half through their most effective player of the night, Willian in the 62nd minute with a beautifully struck shot from outside the box.
The lead however only lasted 13 minutes as the Spanish league leaders equalized in the 75th minutes through a well-placed Messi’s ball. This was Messi’s first goal against the Blues after several attempts in the past. The goal came after a grave error from Andrea Cristenseen. The youngster has a decent game bar the error leading to the goal.
Both sides will now have to go for the jugular in the return leg at Camp Nou on the 14th of March. The Catalan giant will definitely have the edge playing at home as the atmosphere there will be electric.
Chelsea can take cue from the fact that they drew 2-2 there in 2012 on their way to victory that season. The difference here is that Chelsea need to win the game or get a draw from 2-2 upward as this is the only way they will qualify.
It will be a tough tie for Chelsea with Barcelona form right now. But it will be an interesting game to watch especially for the neutrals. This game could also mean beyond win for Conte as his job is at stake at Chelsea and will be hoping to get the best from his players on the night.
